Meddie Kagere scored in his debut for Simba SC in a 2-1 victory over Rwandan champions APR in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame cup hosted by Tanzania.

The Rwandan striker, who signed for the Tanzanian champions from Gor Mahia, scored from the spot after he was brought down in the box by APR defender.

Simba came from a goal down after APR went ahead early in the second half to record their second victory in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame Cup.

Piston Nkizingabo gave APR the lead before Adam Salamba equalized through a deflection to bring Simba back into the game.

With the game headed for a 1-1 draw, Kagere cut on his strong right foot after racing inside APR’s box; beat his marker to the pace before the defender, who had lost his footing brought him down.

Kagere easily went to the ground, leaving the referee with no option but point to the spot The former Gor Mahia striker then dusted himself off to slot home the match winner from the 12-meter yard.

Simba now leads their group with six points. Earlier on, Singinda United played a 0-0 with Somali Dakadaha.

Kenyan representatives Gor Mahia will return to the pitch on Tuesday after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Rayon Sports.
