Karim Nizigiyimana among Burundi’s foreign legion for Senegal tie

Karim Nizigiyimana among Burundi’s foreign legion for Senegal tie

A total of thirty four players have been summoned to camp by “Swallows” Coach Niyungeko Alain Olivier ahead of AFCON 2017 group “K” qualifier against Teranga Lions of Senegal on June 4 in the capital Bujumbura.

Home based players have already began preparations in the capital ahead of the crucial tie.

Gor Mahia’s right full back Karim Nizigiyimana is among the foreign based players who have earned a spot in the large squad. The reigning Sportpesa Premier League defender of the season has continued to shine for Gor Mahia in the Kenyan top league – thus far, he has played in almost all their league matches for K’Ogalo this season.

Leading goal scorer for Swallows in the campaign with five goals Fiston Abdul Razak-Bloemfontein, Papy Faty-Bidvest Wits and Nsabiyumva Frederic-Jomo Cosmos in the ABSA Premiership South Africa, Tambwe Amissi of Tanzania champions Yanga SC and Kwizera Pierre of Rayon Sports in Rwanda adds to the list of those plying their trade abroad.

Senegal who won the first stanza 3-1 on 13 June 2015 in Dakar leads the group with 12 points from four wins and are already through to Gabon 2017 – the west Africans have lined up a friendly match against Burundi’s neighbors Rwanda on May 28 as part of preparations for the match.

Burundi with six points from two wins and two loses could still make it as one of the two best second-placed teams. Other members of the group Niger and Namibia are already out the road to Gabon.
