Kariobangi Sharks held by Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko played out a goalless draw with Kenya giants Kariobangi Sharks in the first leg of their Confederation Cup first Round tie on Saturday at the Kasarani stadium.

The Kenyan side, who were looking to head into the second leg with an advantage dominated possession in both halves but could not break the resilient Kotoko defence.

The Sharks came close to opening the scoring on two occasions in the first half but failed to convert their chances.

However, the Porcupine Warriors were nearly beaten in the latter stages of the first half but centre-back Agyeman Badu produced a superb goal-line clearance in the 40th minute to prevent a Sharks opener as Felix Annan was totally beaten following a corner to deny the Kenyans.

Coach C.K Akunnor ans his lads came very close to breaking the deadlock with a header from Guinean Naby Keita going just wide the goalposts.

Emmanuel Gyamfi with a shot from the edge of the box could have broken the deadlock but his effort missed the goal posts by a whisker.

Asante Kotoko will host Kariobangi Sharks at the Baba Yara Stadium on December 22 for the return leg encounter.
