KCCA have booked their place in the group stage of the 2018 Caf Champions League after they defeated St George 1-0 in first round, second leg match played at Star Times Stadium on Saturday.

The hero of the day was Mohammed Shaban who scored the only goal in both legs for the 12 times Uganda League Champions who have now set another record as they are the first club from the country to reach the CAF Champions’ League group stage.

The Kasasiro Boys got off to an encouraging start and looked a real threat down the left flank with Derrick Nsibambi’s pace.

Nsibambi continued to threaten down the flank and he carved out a chance Allan Okello in the seventh minute, but the striker’s effort was blocked off.

Chances were hard to come by in the opening stanza, as both sides struggled with decision-making in the final third.

Although, the home side did go close in the 38th minute, as the St George skipper showed good skill to evade Habib Kavuma and Timothy Awany, before unleashing a powerful effort that sailed just wide of the upright.

The hosts ended the first half on a stronger note and could have gone into the break ahead, but Sani somehow placed his effort wide of the upright with only Charles Lukwago to beat.

KCCA returned with a blistering start, pressing forward and got a corner two minutes after restart. Shaban Muhammad beautifully met Musatafa Kizza’s well taken cross with a powerful header for the goal.

The visitors tried to fight back but failed to break KCCA FC’s defense.Charles Lukwago came to his sides’ rescue in the 63rd minute, as he got down well to keep out Sani’s powerful volley.

Ondogkara pulled off a fine save in the 69th minute to deny Allan Olello from the edge of the area.

Behali Assefa squandered a great chance to level matters in the 80th minute as the defender managed to head over from six-yards out.

The visitors failed to create anything in the closing stages, as the Kasasiro boys held on for the slender victory.

KCCA FC’s qualification for the group stage means they earn 550,000 U.S dollars from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). In-case they progress to the last eight in the knockout stage then they will get 675,000 U.S dollars.
