Kenya football elections in quagmire as red flag raised as parrallel association sanctioned

There are attempts to derail the ongoing Football Kenya Federation elections as it has emerged that a parallel association has been allegedly sanctioned by the Sports ministry.

The latest developments come even as FKF issued a notice of Special General Meeting yesterday, during which new national elections will be elected on February 10. FKF have now raised a red flag after receiving a petition from the Sports Tribunal (number 19 of 2015) lodged by one Noordin Taib Koor.

A letter dated January 20 and signed by Sports Registrar Rose Wasike, apparently furnishing a petitioner of registered officials, for purposes of an appeal says: “Our records indicate that Football Kenya Federation picked the application form (for compliance to the Sports Act 2013), through Mr Mahmud Abbas Ahmed.” It further states: “The application form was returned on December 1, 2015 by Gukenyo & Company Advocates representing Sammy Tiyoy Shollei faction and not Nyamweya faction.

The interim officials in the form are; Evans Semelang’o (Chairperson), Sammy Tiyoy Sholeei (Secretary) and Mahmud Abbas Ahmed (Treasurer) as interim officials.” When contacted, Ms Wasike said: “I have not registered any federation. We only have 16 transitional federations. They only made an application which any Kenyan can make. They will only be registered and a certificate presented to them after officials are elected. But as for now that doesn’t mean anything to me.”

A statement from FKF, signed by FKF president Sam Nyamweya, warned of serious ramifications of a parallel association saying, “This exposes the football family to serious and severe sanctions by CAF and Fifa and potentially locking out our clubs which are participating in CAF Championships.

Movement of players, participation of our national teams in international competitions, appointment of referees, Match Commissioners for international assignments and other consequences relating to football matters.” FKF presidential candidate Semelang’o said they took the step to “bring order in FKF.

We will conduct proper poll, which will involve all clubs, not 78 people”. Semelang’o said they will reach out to those willing to improve transparency and conduct elections in three to six weeks.
