Gor Mahia forward Meddie Kagere has expressed willingness to stay at the club when his contract expires in the coming weeks.
Speaking to the club’s official website, www.gormahiafc.co.ke, the Ugandan-born Rwandan affirmed that he will “definitely” stay “if we agree on terms.”
“I signed a short term contract with Gor Mahia but I’m ready to listen to what will be offered for me to extend my stay,” the former Abania’s KF Tirana striker said.
Gor’s assistant secretary General Ronald Ngala confirmed that they have been engaging the player with the view to renew is stay at the club and so far all is going on well.
“It’s true we have been talking and Kagare is positive and very much willing to stay, we hope to strike a deal soon.”
Kagere’s future with the coach Dylan Kerr’s side has been the subject of intense speculation in the past week after he starred in the second edition of the SportPesa Super Cup in Nakuru where he emerged as the top scorer with four goals in three matches.
He was on the mark as K’Ogalo defended the eight-team tournament’s title against Tanzania’s Simba SC, who they beat 2-0 in the final, with Kagere netting the opening goal.
Tanzania media have since been churning out stories linking the experienced striker and a number of Gor’s stars including Francis Kahata and Godfrey Walusimbi to a number of clubs in the country more so Yanga SC and Simba SC.
Kagere is currently enjoying a form of his life and is the club’s top scorer with 8 goals – making him one of the hot properties in the region.
Rwandan giants APR are also reportedly planning a big move for the striker.
He was on the score sheet midweek as the defending Kenyan Premier League champions obliterated strugglers Wazito FC 4-0 at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium on Wednesday in a league tie.
Kagere has also been a dependable player for the 16-times KPL champions on the continental front; Gor for the first time in over 30-years qualified for the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
“As a forward player, my work is to score goals and I thank God goals have been coming my way. It’s just a blessing and all happens with the help of my teammates,” Kagere added.
