The Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has confirmed that Kenya will host this year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in November.

Speaking to Nation Sport, Mwendwa revealed that Kenya was the only country that expressed interest to stage the oldest regional tournament in Africa.

It will be the first time in two years that the competition will be held since Ethiopia 2015 edition.

“CECAFA is coming home. Kenya is the only CECAFA country that expressed interest in hosting the event and so we have been granted that wish. We are yet to fix the dates but it will happen in November,” Mwendwa said.

He clarified that the five stadiums earmarked for 2018 CHAN will remain closed for renovation; instead Mombasa and Nakuru will stage the regional championship.

Mwendwa further revealed that Rwanda will host the women’s version of the Senior Challenge.

The Harambee Stars who have been invited for COSAFA tournament next will proceed to Rwanda thereafter.

The long awaited CECAFA elective AGM will also take place this year.

The body has largely under achieved under the reign of Mutassim of Sudan and has been embroiled in leadership tag of war.
