Kenya: Why Red hot Michael Olunga should stay put at Gor Mahia as told by Legend Goro Oronge

By James Goro Oronge,

Recently i was listening to a heated debate on whether Michael Olunga should quit GOR Mahia FC and go for greener pastures either in Tanganyika or South Africa. This has always happened in GOR Mahia FC and the results are as follows. Peter Dawo ‘Omuga” tried it in 1989 when he joined Arab Contractors of Egypt after being the top scorer in Mandela Cup.

It was a total failure because “Omuga’ forgot that the goals he was scoring were manufactured in the K’ogalo machine. These were the corner kicks taken by either Abbas or Sammy Onyango who were actually specialists in doing this and could target your run and give a pinpoint pass.

The same were on the long throw ins from Ochola’ jua Kali’ which surprised many opponents and ‘Omuga’ would easily tap it in. It was a system that was automated. Over 30 or so goals were scored by this beautiful combination and when ‘Omuga’ left, he forgot that the service providers were left behind.

He failed and later joined Oman team but no success ever came and he came back to Gor and never performed well. Hesbon Omollo was one of the most prolific goal scorer in K’ogalo football History but relied on the lay offs of Abdallah Shebe and when Shebe left for Switzerland to play professional football, Omollo could not score. Shebe also failed miserably and did not last long in his pro career. The latest was Dan Ssera who also forgot that his great game was inspired by K’ogalo and when he went for greener pastures, indeed he sat on the greener pastures and was a total failure.

The K’ogalo spirit can lift you in a game and make you think you are now ripe to play anywhere. The support the GM fans give in a game are highly motivational and can make you perform beyond your expectations. I remember a game at Nyayo stadium when K’ogalo fans isisted that i should be brought in and immediately i came in, it took me only 5 minutes to give them what they wanted. This game was against Bata from Limuru.

I therefore conclude by requesting Olunga to stay put in Gor, finish his studies and opportunity will come and his next destination to be in Europe where players are neither selfish nor jealous. It is easy for African players to cut you off supply because of the factors i have mentioned. To K’ogalo technical bench, do not play roulette with our team again.
