The Kenyan premier league round of 22 matches elicited mixed reactions after a pulsating weekend of football in the Sportpesa sponsored league across the country.

Awendo based Sony Sugar poor run and relegation worries deepened  further as they fell to AFC Leopards as Tusker,Sofapaka,Wazito and Vihiga United registered wins.

Relegation battling Sony Sugar Sunday endured another unsuccessful afternoon as they went down 1-0 to AFC Leopards in a pulsating SportPesa Premier League match staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County

Sofapaka 3-2 Mathare United 

Sofapaka battled tooth and nail upsetting hardfighting Mathare United 3-2  at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to move top second in the log table.

Kepha Aswani opened the scoring with a powerful header to take his season tally to 8 goals so far. Francis Ochieng leveled the scores for Mathare with a well taken penalty in the 20th minute but Elli Asieche restored Sofapaka’s lead from the spot just before the break. Pistone Mutamba, signed from Wazito during the midseason transfer window, scored to make it 3-1 minutes after the breather. Alphonce Ndonye reduced the deficit for Mathare but Sofapaka held on for the crucial maximum points.

AFC Leopards 1-0 Sony Sugar 

Abdalla Salim headed in Brian Marita’s cross in the 55th minute to score his first league goal for AFC Leopards and hand them a crucial win against Sony Sugar FC in a match played at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Tusker FC 1-0 Nakumatt 

New signing John Kamau made the difference for Tusker FC as his goal in the 20th minute was all they needed to edge out Nakumatt FC in a match played at the Ruaraka Stadium.

Nzoia Sugar 0-0 Posta Rangers

Nzoia Sugar FC and Posta Rangers played to a barren draw in a match played at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Wazito 0-1 Vihiga United 

Wazito’s poor form persisted as they lost by a solitary goal to Vihiga United at the Camp Toyoyo, Christopher Masinza’s strike making all the difference. The result leaves Wazito at the bottom of the log with 18 points from 22 matches.

Ulinzi Stars 1-1 Kariobangi Sharks 

Oscar Wamalwa rescued a point for Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru as he scored an 88th minute equalizer to cancel out Ovella Ochieng’s wonder goal in the 20th minute.

Zoo FC and Bandari FC registered identical 1-0 wins over Chemelil Sugar FC and Kakamega Homeboyz in the only SportPesa Premier League matches played on Saturday 7th July afternoon.

Zoo FC  1-0 Chemelil Sugar FC

Nicholas Kipkirui scored his tenth goal of the season as Zoo FC registered an important win against Chemelil Sugar FC in a match played at the Green Stadium in Kericho. After a goalless first half, Mike Madoya reacted swiftly to a parried ball, setting up Kipkirui to tap in for the winner in the 53rd minute. After the win, Zoo move to thirteenth on the log with 24 points from 22 matches.

Bandari 1-0 Kakamega Homeboyz 

Darius Msagha scored the all important goal for hosts Bandari in the 44th minute to ensure they pick the maximum points in an entertaining match played at the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa. Msagha intercepted Wycliffe Ochomo’s header to drive in a low shot past Kakamega Homeboyz custodian Gabriel Andika. Bandari are now third on the log with 35 points having played 22 matches.
