Kenya:Sports CS Wario says Harambee Stars is Government responsibility

Sports Minister Dr.Hassan Wario has exonerated Football Kenya Federation(FKF) President Sam Nyamweya  from any blame saying the onus
of paying Harambee Stars players  lies squarely with the Government.

The Minister confirmed that according to the Sports Act 2013,matters affecting Harambee Stars  that include payment will be handled by the
Government but not the Federation.

Speaking during a  breakfast meeting  at the Norfolk Hotel on Wednesday  morning, Wario said  the government has committed itself
into paying the salary of  Stars coach Bobby Williamson and  the players.

Wario noted that the government was overly concerned with the welfare of the national team and especially its handlers.

“To the government, interests of Harambee Stars are of paramount importance and I must take this opportunity to announce that the national team coach is on the payroll of the government,” said Wario in a brief interview with journalists.

The minister confirmed that he will meet the country’s football governors on Thursday(Oct 15th) at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani from
3.00 p.m to discuss pertinent issues including those relating to salary payments of Harambee Stars coaching staff and other finer details.

Wario also hinted that he will be meeting all aspirants in the upcoming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) national elections after
Mashujaa Day next Tuesday to chart the way forward in regards to the exercise.

For the past few weeks, the minister has advocated for a free and fair exercise in line with world governing body Fifa’s directive, beginning
from the sub branch, branch and national elections slated for November 13.

He at the same time warned that all sports federations which are yet to comply with the Sports Act will be treated as non-existent.
