KPL – Oboya makes Kakamega Homeboyz home.

Kakamega Homeboyz have secured the services of dangerous striker Patrick Oboya just two days before the SportPesa Premier League transfer window shuts.

Homeboyz assistant coach Peter Okidi told kpl.co.ke that the former speedy Kenya forward had agreed to a one year deal with the Kakamega-based club.

“Oboya has trained with the team for a couple of days here in Kakamega. We are looking to add on more experience, and he fits the bill perfectly. It will be easy to deal with him because I know him from Nakuru All Stars where we were together and I know that we shall have a successful year together,” he said.

Oboya joins the league returnees from relegated Nakuru All Stars where he spent six months in 2015.

The left footed 28-year-old striker at his best has pace, attack-play propensity and an eye for the spectacular.

He has played for a number of teams locally and abroad including MFK Ruzomberok in the Slovakia league and Czech Republic’s FK Banik Most, as well as AFC Leopards, Tusker and Gor Mahia.

He has recorded 29 appearances for the Kenya with two goals to his name.

After four years of playing professional football in Europe, Oboya returned home in 2013 and rejoined Gor Mahia where he featured in his formative years.

But the form that made the gifted attacker a darling to watch was nowhere in sight as a nagging knee injury bogged him down. He was sidelined for the better part of the 2014 season before being shipped out on loan to Tusker the following year. He failed to secure a starting role with the brewers and, frustrated, was soon on the move again, this time to Nakuru All Stars where he finished the season.

The Kamukunji High School old boy becomes Kakamega Homeboyz’s fourth high profile signing of the season after former AFC Leopards midfielder Martin Imbalambala, ex-Gor Mahia goalkeeper David Juma, Andrew Kulecho from KCB and Athman Buki (Tusker).
