KPL PREVIEW:Tricky weekend as Gor face Tusker in ding dong battle as Sony take on City Stars

By Bonface Osano,

Gor Mahia FC vs Tusker FC

They say success has many fathers, failure is an orphan. The first part of the proverb seems to be true for reigning Kenyan Premier League champions as their on field exploits continue to draw attention from the right quarters, with  the latest individual to appreciate their efforts is non other than the second in command in Kenya Deputy President Hon William Ruto who catered for their air tickets to Kisumu.
The team is already in Kisumu ahead of the litmus test against Tusker FC tomorrow at the Moi Stadium.
“K’Ogalo’s” league run stands at 11 wins and 3 draws, they are currently parched at the top of the table with 36 points;  a win tomorrow will push their tally to 39 points ahead of the mid season break.
“It will be a tough match against Tusker definitely because they are a team seeking the championship as well but but our targets remain the same. Our aim is to win the match so that we finish the first leg strongly.” Gor coach Frank Nutall told Soka25east.com
Those sentiments by Nutall are clearly reflected in the statistics between these two giants of KPL. In the last six league meetings,Tusker has won twice and Gor managing a single win with the rest being draws. Gor’s recent form in the league however gives them a little edge over their opponents who have struggled to find their footing in the league despite boasting of immense talent within their ranks.
Tusker who travelled to Kisumu on Tuesday will be going for nothing but a chance to reduce the gap between them and the leaders that stands at a whooping 14 points at the moment, they could also be the first team to break Gor’s unbeaten run and also put to an end to Boniface Oluoch’s 9 match clean sheets.
“This match is like any other and we will treat it with the seriousness we handle all our matches. We will definitely be doing for a win.” Tusker Caoch Francis Kimanzi.
Sony Sugar FC vs City Stars
Sony Coach Zedekiah Otieno is no doubt a man under pressure owing to the poor start of the season that has seen the Awendo based side register just 4 wins in 14 fixtures. Rumor has it that he is up for replacement by the current Muhoroni Youth coach Francis Baraza making this encounter a must win if he has to impress his masters.
For City Stars, it will just be another battle for survival as they remain rooted in the relegation zone with a win in 14 fixtures.
Bandari FC vsThika United
On Sunday June 7th, Bandari will be hosting Thika United at the Mbaraki Stadium. Thika United coach Tim Breyett will hoping to put behind them the 2-0 loss to Gor Mahia on Monday and bounce back to winning ways while on the other hand Coach Twahir Muhiddin will be seeking to end the first leg on a high.
A win for Thika could see them move up to top three on the table with 25 points while a win for Bandari could move them to 7th.
