KPL Top 8 review: Sony Sugar needed penalty to gundown Ulinzi Stars , impressive Tusker to bitter for AFC Leopards to take, while champion K’Ogalo march towards treble as sofa advance

Ulinzi Stars 4-5 PSO (1-1) Sony Sugar (Afraha Stadium)

Sony Sugar were clinical on the spot to eliminate the soldiers, after Oscar Wamalwa header force the game into a penalty a shoot-out.
Sony Sugar opened the scoring through Marwa Chamberi, before they were reduced to 10 men when Hamidu Kwizera was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 75th minute, an advantage which worked for the hosts, who equalized through Wamalwa.
However Hassan Mohamed’s penalty was saved, Sony scored through Sylvester Wanyama, Victor Ayugi, Amos Asembeka, Charles Bruno and Robert Omonuk were sure with their penalty kicks for Sony. The Kenya Defence Forces side scored their spot kicks through Oscar Wamalwa, Enos Ochieng, Rodgers Omondi and Francis Ochieng

Tusker 4-2 AFC Leopards (Kasarani Stadium)

Title holders Tusker give good account of themselves and showing  every intention of retaining their trophy when they came back from a goal down to humble AFC Leopards 4-2.
Lamine Diallo handed AFC Leopards the lead as early as the 26th minute but Tusker responded swiftly with two quick fire goals from Eugene Asike and Humphrey Mieno to head into the breather with a deserved lead.
Brian Osumba and Jesse Were then dimmed any hopes of Leopards staging a comeback with a goal apiece in the early exchanges of the second half before Martin Kizza wrapped the scoring with a late consolation goal
Ingwe got their second consolation through former Tusker man Martin Kiiza in the last quarter to put some respect on the score line.
Chemelil Sugar 4-5 PSO (2-2) Sofapaka (Moi Stadium)
A penalty shootout was neeed to determining the winner from the match after it ended in 2-2 draw at the end of regular time.
Samuel Olwande and Meshack Karani had given the sugar millers a two-goal lead but Batoto ba Mungu fought back to reply through David Mbakiye and evergreen John Baraza.
Olwande put the millers ahead in the 29th minutes through a penalty after striker Meshack Karani had been fouled inside the box by Sofapaka defender Evans Maliachi.
Karani then brought forth the second goal in the 61st minute with fine free kick.
Late substitute David Okello was the hero for Batoto Ba Mungu after he saved efforts from Hamisi Mwinyi and Stephen Wakhanya in the post match shoot out.
Gor Mahia 3-0 Muhoroni Youth(Moi Stadium)
Goals by Meddie Kagere, Michael Olunga and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo were enough to give K’Ogalo a deserved win over the sugar millers in Kisumu
Goals by Meddie Kagere, Michael Olunga and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo were enough to give Gor Mahia a 3-0 win over Muhoroni Youth in Saturday’s Kenyan Premier League Top 8 match at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
Kagere was allowed space to in front of Muhoroni goal area before beautifully shot the ball into the back of the net
Olunga then doubled the scores eight minutes later running round the Muhoroni goalkeeper Faruk Shikalo to guide his effort into an empty net.
Frankline Osama’s penalty kick for Muhoroni midway through the second half has brilliantly kept out by Gor goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch.
Odhiambo then came in for Innocent Wafula and provided an impressive solo run, typical of his earlier years, before hitting the back of the net to end Muhoroni’s 13-match unbeaten run

Defending champions Tusker will now meet Gor Mahia while Sofapaka will confront Sony Sugar in attractive looking semi-finals in October following a draw conducted at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday soon after all the quarter-finals results had been determined.
