Mathare United rallied to edge Nzoia Sugar 2-1 at Machakos’ Moi Stadium on Sunday to move top of the table standings on six points as the Kenyan Premier League entered day two.

Sofapaka on the other hand recovered from last week’s 3-0 loss to Bandari to dismiss Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.

Sony Sugar were also on the winning side shocking Ulinzi Stars by a similar goal margin to atone for last week’s 1-0 loss to debutants Wazito FC.

Mathare United  2-1 Nzoia Sugar 

In Machakos, the Slum Boys picked their second maximum points on the trot with a well worked 2-1 win over visitors Nzoia Sugar.

George Mutimba gave the millers the lead moments after the half hour mark but Chrispin Oduor managed to restore parity for Mathare in the 77th minute.

Francis grabbed the winner for the coach Francis Kimanzi’s side in the 83rd minute from the spot after Festus Okiring had handled in the box.

The 2008 champions move top of the log on six points after the second round of matches.

Kakamaga Homeboyz 0-1 Sofapaka

Sofapaka picked their first win on the road with a hard fought 1-0 victory over hosts Kakamega Homeboyz at Kakamega’s newly refurbished Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.

Batoto ba Mungu’s returnee Elli Asieche netted the lone goal to ensure the 2009 champions bury the Bandari ghost.

Sony Sugar 1-0 Ulinzi Stars

Sony recorded their opening win of the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory over visiting Ulinzi Stars at Awendo’s Green Stadium on Sunday.

Clinton Zize’s strike was all the coach Salim Babu’s side needed to bag the three points and slow down the Soldiers, who thumped Zoo FC 4-2 at their backyard last week.

Nakumatt FC 3-3 Thika United

Cash strapped Nakumatt FC rallied to hold Thika United to a thrilling 3-3 draw at Ruaraka grounds on Saturday.

Thika started on a high with Masakidi Mata putting them in the driving seat with the opener in the sixth minute before Saad Musa doubled the lead at the quarter hour mark.

Cornelius Juma pulled one back for Nakumatt in the 32nd minute but Thika restored their two-goal lead through Mata’s brace in the 42nd minute.

The drama was far from over as Donald Mosoti scored for Nakumatt just before the break to make it 3-2.

Nakumatt, who were thumped 4-0 by Gor Mahia last week in Machakos could not hold on to the slim lead as Brian Nyakan equalized for Thika with five minutes to go to tie the game 3-3.

In other matches of the weekend, Bandari were held to a barren draw at home by Chemelil Sugar while Tusker FC and Posta Rangers also settled for a similar result at Ruaraka.

Tusker lost their league opener 2-0 to Chemelil while Posta Rangers rallied to pick a 1-1 draw against AFC Leopards at Afraha Stadium on the opening day of the season.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia and the Leopards were engaged in the African Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup respectively.

Gor beat Equatorial Guinea’s Leones Vegetarianos 2-0 in Machakos on Saturday while Leopards were held to a 1-1 draw by Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.

The two will play KPL catch up matches on Wednesday.

Gor, who are the defending champions, will travel to Kericho to face Zoo FC with Leopards traveling to Machakos to host Wazito FC.
