KPL:The “Lion” Matano targets second position with a win over Mathare tomorrow

The Lion Matano will be hunting for nothing but three points when they host tactically astute Mathare United tomorrow at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

A win will see the six times Kenya Premier League Champions move to top three on the log from current sixth with twenty four points same as SOFAPAKA.

This match was supposed to be played last week Wednesday but it was postponed to give Mathare United enough time to travel to Mombasa for their weekend fixture against Bandari FC.

The Soldiers squandered a one nil lead in their weekend fixture against City Stars to settle for 1-1 draw, thanks to Robert Mbugua ‘s late equalizer for the Kawangware based side, Oscar Wamalwa had put the hosts a head in the first half but sloppy defending costed them maximum points, a result Matano did not take lightly.

“I was very disappointed with theb performance we put in. It was the worst game we have played this season and I am more worried that we could not take our chances and we never approached the match with the seriousness it deserves.” Matano told the official club website.

The return of keeper Jackton Odhiambo from military assignments is a boost to the goalkeeping department, but he will have to fight out with in form James Saruni for the number one jersey if Matano’s words are anything to go by.

“It is not for a coach to field a player. It is for the player to field himself. If he works hard and gets to good fitness and competitive levels, then he will have his chance. But it is all upon him, not me.”

SportPesa/SjAK player of the Month for April will be a man to watch on this Ulinzi side, he will be seeking to add to the seven goals he has scored so far and join Meddie Kagere, Jacob Keli, Ali Abondo in the top scorers chart.

Mathare United on the other hand will also be looking to bounce back to winning ways after weekend’s barren away against Bandari FC in Mombasa.

A win for the Slum Boys could see them jump to top five, that if they win by a margin of two goals.

Eric Johana has been a revelation for Mathare United this season and he will be expected to deliver goals for the Stanley Okumbi coached side tomorrow.

Prediction: Ulinzi Stars 1-2 Mathare United
