Ugandan football association, FUFA, will reward Mamelodi Sundowns keeper Denis Onyango with a parcel of land for winning African Champions League.

Onyango, “Mr. Safe Hands”, is the first Ugandan to win the prestigious continental club honors.

“Denis Onyango will be handed a land title by FUFA on 12th November, at Namboole stadium, for becoming first Ugandan to win the CAF champions league,” FUFA spokesperson Ahmed Hassan confirmed.

The 29-year old former SC Villa, St. George and Supersport United shot stopper, on Sunday, October 23 lifted the trophy with Sundowns, after beating Zamalek 3-1 aggregate at Borg El Arab stadium, Alexandria, Egypt.

Onyango, however, despite carrying the team throughout the campaign, did not finish the second leg final clash, after picking an injury in the first half.

The club’s president Patrice Motsepe allowed the players and technical bench to enjoy the $1.5 million prize money.

The government of South Africa through the Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon. Fikile Mbalula, upon arrival back into the country from Cairo, also rewarded the team $51,100 token money for flying the country’s flag high.

“The Brazilians” will represent Africa in the World Cup Championship in Japan in December.
