Congo-Brazzaville suffered a 2-1 home defeat to a spirited Egypt side in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils of Congo hosted Egypt’s Pharaohs at the Stade Municipal de Kintele in Brazzaville, Congo’s capital city.

The home side started the match brightly as Marvin Baudry forced Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary into a decent save a few minutes into the game.

The Red Devils did break the deadlock six minutes before the half-hour mark through Ferebory Dore who headed home to hand the home side the lead.

But the lead only lasted for seventeen minutes as Mohamed Salah made it 1-1 for Egypt after heading home a superb Mohamed Abdel-Shafy cross.

The score was 1-1 during the half-time after the Pharaohs fought back to hold the Red Devils until the match referee blew the half-time whistle.

Egypt took the lead two minutes before the half-hour mark through Abdallah Saied who was set-up by Salah and the former made it 2-1 to the visitors.

Saied nearly made it 3-1 to the Pharaohs in stoppage time, but Congo goalkeeper Gildas Kiwoko came off his goalline to deny the attacker.

Egypt managed to contained Congo in the dying minutes of the encounter until the match referee blew the final whistle and the Pharaohs won 2-1.
