Libya Football Federation (LFF) has sacked Head Coach Javier Clemente Lazaro less than 24-hours after DR Congo thumped them 4-0 in 2018 World Cup qualifier at Stade de Martyrs, Kinshasa.

The Mediterranean Knights, who are chasing maiden appearance at the global stage, had a torrid time in the opening group “A” fixture against star-studded Leopards.

Hull City’s Dieumerci Mbokani announced his return from self-imposed retirement with two goals in each half with Jonathan Bolingi and substitute Firmin Mubele grabbing a goal each to complete the demolition.

The heavy loss, must have been the proverbial last stroke that broke the camel’s back – after the Spaniard failed to qualify the North Africans to Gabon 2017 AFCON.

The 66-year old former Spain (1992-98), Serbia (2006-2007) and Cameroon (2010-11) manager, arrived in Libya from Sporting Gijon in 2013 – and in 2014, won African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa without winning a single match in regular time.

The experienced gaffer has also coached top clubs including; Athetico Madrid, Espanol, Real Sociedad, Bilbao among others.

Libya will host Tunisia on November 11 in their next outing on the road to Russia. Meanwhile, Tunisia will play Guinea today (Sunday 9) in the other group tie.
