Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael has emerged as the front runner for the vacant Uganda position as he is expected to be named the Cranes boss within one week.

According to close source, Eymael’s name has been discussed by the FUFA technical panel alongside a list of undisclosed trio of coaches from his country who have been shortlisted for the job.

Eymael is expected to arrive in Kampala in seven days’ time to be unveiled as the new coach of the Cranes.

His major brief will be to guide Uganda in the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco where Cranes are in a difficult group with Ivory Coast, Zambia, and Namibia.

The 57-year- old Eymael ,is a holder of a UEFA Pro License‚ the highest qualification in football.He is credited with helping the development of a number of Belgium’s current stars‚ including Eden Hazard‚ Axel Witsel and Christian Benteke.

Eymael has vast knowledge in African football with his first appointment being coach of AS Vita Club in 2010‚ leading them to the domestic league title ahead of TP Mazembe‚ before helping Gabonese side Missile to a first ever championship in that country.

A short stint at MC Oran in Algeria was followed by a move to AFC Leopards in Kenya and then Rayon Sports in Rwanda and JS Kairouan in Tunisia‚ and jobs in Oman and Sudan at giants Al-Merrikh.

He has had eleven coaching posts in the last six years‚ having only joined Free State Stars from Polokwane in August this year.
