Maclean Letshwiti re-elected Botswana FA President

Incumbent Maclean Letshwiti has been mandated for another term of office as Botswana Football Association President after beating his challengers Tebogo Sebego and Oookeditse Malesu in polls at the General Assembly on Saturday.

Letshwiti amassed 32 votes, his closest rival Sebego polled 28 with Malesu getting no votes.

The first Vice President Position went to Marshlow Motlogetwa who polled 29 votes narrowly beating Maokaneng Bontshetse who had 28 votes. Ngele Ngelo was far off with 2 votes.

The Second vice president position was won by Masego Nchingane who garnered 26 votes with the closest contender Senki Sesinyi polling 23 votes. Solomon Ramochtlhwane was third with 11 votes.

And the Newly elected BFA President Mr. Letshwiti thanked delegates for showing love of the game. Letshwiti said: “This is just voluntarism, there is no money the way we fight, the way we compete, it is as if there is a prize. But the prize is slavery, because you are going to slave, you are going to work and the only thing you get is insults.”

“But still people are committed to give free service to football. I wish to embrace Mr. Sebego and Mr. Malesu for their patience and contribution towards sports.”

“This is important Football won today, we’ll be reflecting and encourage all of you not to stay away. Let’s work together for football. This is one country Botswana.”

Meanwhile, The Botswana Football Association assembly has unanimously agreed to grant the Botswana Premier League and First Division autonomy. The structure will be admitted to the BFA as a special member. This structure will be known as Botswana Football League. In addition the General Assembly has rejected the change of Botswana football season change from August-May to February- November.

“We need to commercialize football especially the Premier League. We need to implement everything we set out to do,” The BFA President added.

“We need to transform the game we need to do this as a matter of urgency. We need to go back and strengthen stakeholder relations and to move faster in incentivizing the game.”
