Belgian gaffer Marc Wilmots has quit as Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants coach Wednesday following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Wilmots was on the touchline Saturday as they crumbled 2-0 to visiting Morocco in Abidjan – painfully ending their slim chances of a fourth straight World Cup appearance.

“At the end of talks, the two parties agreed to amicably end their collaboration, all the while praising the good atmosphere during the six months of work together,” the federation said.

The 48-year-old succeeded Frenchman Dusseyor March this year following the Gabon AFCON group phase exit.

In nine outings (including friendlies), Wilmots only managed two wins.

Prior to the Elephants job, he also coached the Belgium national team where he was equally dismissed for poor performance.

Wilmolts penned a two-year-deal and was reportedly taking home $50,000 after tax.
