Speaking to soka25east after launching Pwani youth soccer challenge cup, dubbed Amani Mashinani, Haki Africa Excecutive Director, Hussein Khalid said that there is a plan to establish Mathare united academy structure in Mombasa so as to nurture talents and save youth from radicalization and crime.

“We have started the initiative, and plans are progressing well, we will soon have a Mathare United youth team from Mombasa,” he said.

Khalid added that the academy will include youth from different ages and they will be trained so as to utilize their soccer skills.
“Mombasa is blessed with soccer talents, but what is lacking is the structure and training to nurture those talents”, he added.

“This team will participate in all league levels and it will be on its own”. He finished.

The Nairobi based Mathare united fc is one of Kenya’s succesful teams and is famous for nurturing Kenya’s current and past gifted soccer stars including Jesse Werre, Simon Mulama and Kevin Kimani.

The news is expected to be a huge boost for Mombasa even as teams contest for the top prize in the Pwani youth soccer challenge cup. The cup has brought together 108 teams and matches will be staged in 36 different wards in Mombasa.
