Muchiri strike helps 10 man Sony Sugar beat Homeboyz in Awendo

Bonface Muchiri scored a second minute goal to steer miller’s Sony Sugar to victory, their second this season after a similar one against Chemelil.

Muchiri tapped in from a Collins Kisuya cross to score the all important goal.

The match was delayed for more than half an hour after a heavy downpour in Awendo town. After consultation between the match officials, it was decided that the match be played.

Immediately after the goal Sony began to search for a second with Victor Ademba missing a chance to put the hosts ahead.

Sony Sugar defenders stood tall with stand in captain Charles Bruno together with Kevin Oluoch shielding impressive Kenya U20 keeper Timothy Odhiambo.

Coach Mike Mururi  parading former Sony Sugar players in Robert Ouma and Mike Khaduli decided to withdraw the latter for Keiphas Mutuus whose effort was felt immediately when his pin point pass to Ahmed Ali almost drew the visitor to level terms but Timothy Odhiambo punched the ball out for a corner.

The first half ended with the hosts leading. On resumption, Kakamega Homeboyz started strongly with raid after raid . homeboyz started to pin the hosts at their own half in search for the equalizer but again the miller’s had to thank Timothy Odhiambo who made fantastic saves to deny the visitors in several occasions. IMG_20160428_202958_886

Collins Kisuya got into the referees books after arguing with the  second assistant with the visitors dictating the proceedings.

The match  was watched by a handful of Sony fans and the ferried fans of Homeboyz from Kakamega .

Sony Sugar keeper Timothy Odhiambo went down after being injured with the match being stopped temporarily  in the 59th minute of the match. Later on Keeper Timothy Odhiambo once again saved the hosts from conceding an equalizer when he punched out Andrew Murunga’s shot in a one on one  situation.

As the game pressed on and with signs that the hosts were defending the one goal, coach Mike Mururi  decided to bring on Herbert Kakande  for David Okoth.

Sony Sugar were reduced to ten men when Hamidu Kwizera was sent off after receiving a second yellow card after a deliberate handball with less than ten minutes to go.

This prompted Coach Salim Babu to make his maiden change  bringing on a defender Alfred Onyango for Collins Kisuya.

The miller’s then did another double substitution  in added minutes bringing on Victor Ayugi for  Amos Asembeka  and Oscar Wekesa for Daniel Ochieng.

The match ended 1-0 in favor of the hosts, A win which saw them leapfrog Sofapaka and City Stars to position 14 in the log and on safety.
