Namibia finalise preparations to host 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup

Information coming through from Namibia is that the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup Organising Committee are ready to host the regional tournament.

According to COSAFA media, Timothy Shongwe has declared that both COSAFA and hosts Namibia are ready for the June tournament, which will be staged in Windhoek.

The Brave Warriors are set to host the Southern African regional tournament as defending champions having scooped their maiden trophy in South Africa last year.

It is also reported that the 14-team event will see the best of the region including guest nation Democratic Republic of Congo in a festival of football to be played at the Independence and Sam Nujoma stadiums in Namibia’s capital, from June 11-25.

“Namibia has everything there already, the transport infrastructure, the stadiums, the hotels and so on, it is all in place,” Shongwe said.

“So we are obviously very happy and confident that in terms of the physical requirements, we have everything we need to a very high standard.

“We have finalised the training pitches for the teams. We actually have more than we need so have the option to switch to other venues should the need arise.

“In terms of the stakeholders, we have obviously received wonderful support from the Government of Namibia, who were represented at our launch, and the Namibia Football Association. Everybody is looking forward to a successful event.”

Namibia are hosting the showpiece for the first time. Zambia and Zimbabwe are the most successful team in the tournaments history with four titles apiece -Angola and South Africa have won the regional competition on three previous occasions.
