The newly refurbished Moi Stadium,Kisumu is set to host its first league match in over 4 years on Saturday when Chemelil Sugar host Muhoroni Youth in what has been billed as the sugarbelt derby.

The stadium with a  Astro Tuff surface was officially opened by Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma who did inspections on the stadium which has been closed for over 3 years awaiting renovations.

Muhoroni Youth’s coach Patrick Odhiambo alluded to the fact that he was happy the teams in the region will now have access to the stadium that has been made to international standards.

“I am very happy we will be playing our second league match at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.Footballers need to play in good surfaces to allow for good football to be played and this has been one of our hindrance .We lost by a huge margin over the weekend to Sofapaka but we hope to make amends since we cannot afford to falter again “Odhiambo told Soka25east.com

Kisumu is only the second stadium in Kenya after City Stadium with an Astro Tuff.
