Nigerian former International Kelechi Osunwa is on the verge of creating history in Sudan in an unprecedented goal scoring spree the first to be seen in the country.
33 goals with 6 matches to go for ,4 hatricks,5 brace,5 man of the match awards for Sudan Premier league side Al Ahly Shendi has catapulted the Port Harcourt born Kelechi Osunwa to greatness in South Sudan as he receives rave reviews for a fete never achieved in the history of the countries football circles.
Speaking to soka25east.com the humble Osunwa was full of praise for his team mates for helping him achieve the great football moment “i want to thank God for the opportunity and to my team mates who have ensured the goals came in.Its important to score vital goals for your team and it happened in the right time in my career.I feel blessed that i have contributed to the history of Sudan football”Osunwa said.
Osunwa has played professional football since 2001. He played for Dolphins in Nigeria before moving to Sudan to join Al-Hilal. The former Nigeria youth international helped Al-Hilal reach the semi-final of the 2007 CAF Champions league.
In 2009 Kelechi signed a three-year deal with AL-Merreikh , where he won the Sudan Premier league in 2011 and 2013. Osunwa formed an all-Nigerian strike force with former Enyimba striker Stephen Worgu , who also joined Al-Merreikh in January 2009.
Osunwa signed a two-year contract with Thai Premier League side BEC Tero Sasana in January 2014. After six months in Thailand, Osunwa signed a two-year deal with Ismaily in the Egyptian Premier League.
in 2015 Kelechi signed 3 years with Al Ahly Shendi in Sudan. In 2014 Kelechi Osunwa was declared the highest all time top scorer in the Sudan premier league with 137 goals 54 with Al Hilal, 62 with AL Merikh and 21 with AL Ahly Shendy before Faissal Alagab (121) with Al-Merikh 111 Merikh Alfasher 8 AL Ahly shendi 2.
Kelechi scored 104 goals in 167 games with AL Merikh .He was the all time top scorer in 2012 with 40 goals in 51 games (inc friendly) 2013 with 26 in 41 (inc friendly) 2009 with 32 inc friendly .
Osunwa helped Al Mereikh win 8 trophies in 2013, 3 in league 1 in cup 4 friendly.
He has 29 goals in African club competitions 10 with dolphins, 9 with Al Merreikh, 8 with AL Hilal and 2 with AL Ahly Shendi. He was the top scorer of 2002 Africa cup under 17 and the top scorer of Nigerian league second division in 2004.
