Nkana qualify for CAF CC quarter-finals despite heavy loss

Despite losing 4-1 to Sudan’s Al-Hilal Omdurman in their final CAF Confederation Cup, Group C match at the Al Hilal Stadium on Sunday, Zambia’s Nkana still qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition.

The win sees Al-Hilal on 11 points at the summit of the standings and with a place in the quarter-finals while Nkana are second in Group C with nine points following Asante Kotoko’s 1-1 draw with Zesco, also on Sunday in the other group match.

Kotoko and Zesco are third and fourth respectively with seven points apiece.

Al-Hilal started really positively on Sunday night with the opening goal against Nkana coming in the fifth minute courtesy of a strike from Sharaf Abdelrahman, 1-0.

The Sudanese side continued to dominate the flow of play and doubled their lead in the 19th minute when Waleed Hamid found the back of the net, 2-0.

Nkana tried to find their way back into the match, but were unable to pull any goals back before the half time whistle.

Nkana came out strong in the second half and managed to pull a goal back three minutes after the restart when Walter Bwalya produced a deadly finish to make it 2-1.

The Zambian side’s joy was short-lived with Al-Hilal restoring their two-goal lead just after the hour mark when Hamid scored his second goa, 3-1.

The match was over as a contest in the 77th minute when Idris Mbombo scored Al-Hilal’s fourth goal to seal an impressive win, 4-1.
