British online gaming company “Betway” was on Tuesday unveiled as the official sponsors of Azam Uganda Premier League new entrants Onduparaka FC.

The well attended function at Tropical Restaurant near Arua Park was attended by among others the Anyivu Member of Parliament Bernard Atiku and club’s CEO Anthony Afeti.

No official figures were disclosed, however, pressed to the wall, the club’s chairman Benjamin Nakun said Betway agreed to support their budget which is to the tune of 180M Ugandan Shillings.

Anton Opperman, Betway’s country manager is confident their investment in the club is worth every penny owing to Onduparaka’s large and passionate following.

“Onduparaka has the most passionate fans in the country and our investment is worth every penny,” Anton said.

The team from Arua Municipality boasts some of the most loyal, loud and passionate fans from across the country.

Benjamin reiterated Onduparaka’s long term plan of changing the face of club football in Uganda in terms of organisation and good management.

“We want to give Onduparaka a national outlook and make it a club worth associating with. We are already setting the trend in terms of professionalism.”

Betway were edged out of the Kenyan Premier League by another betting company Sportpesa who beat them to partner two of the biggest clubs in the country, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia as well as the league itself.
