Over 200 girls gather at a Football festival in Djibouti

A soccer festival in Djibouti has attracted the attention of more than two hundred young girls, aged between 12-14 years.
The festival which was hosted at the Djiboutian Football Federation’s technical centre over the weekend was the first of its kind organized in the country.
The event was mainly intended to get more young girls into football, as Djibouti is eying on the development of women’s football in the small horn of African country.

The promotion of women football was part of the long-term women’s football development strategy announced by the FDF president, Souleiman Hassan Waberi, during his post election address just nearly three years ago.

“In the past several months we witnessed that our women football made real progress as our girls were seen performing well in all women’s tournaments they participated since early this year” president Souleiman told a gathering during the festival over the weekend.

The resident said that more than two hundred teenage girls who attended the program were selected from schools in the capital Djibouti.
“This time only girls from schools in the capital took part in the event, but as shown in our annual schedules, girls from schools in the regions will turn up for next year’s football festival” the president continued.

FIFA’s Cairo regional Development Office assistant, Safia El Dayeb, who addressed at the festival said that she was fully appreciating the promotion of women football in Djibouti.
She praised the country’s FA authorities for the right move they took for making a real women’s football progress in Djibouti.
