In a sudden twist of events at 5th floor, Gor Mahia’s centre of power, former striker, Rwandan Meddie Kagere has been recalled to the club for “trials” and possible re-signing.

The unexpected development was occasioned by Brazilian forward Thiago De Lima Silva’s failure to impress Coach Ze Maria even after being handed a two year contract.

With the clock quickly ticking away to closure of Kenyan Premier League (KPL) June transfer window which shuts on July 2, and fans, who watch him (De Silva) in training at Camp Toyoyo increasingly returning a verdict of “Oknyal” (he can’t) a decision had to be made fast to salvage the delicate situation.

A replacement had to be sought within the shortest time possible to beat the deadline – and that’s how Kagere landed in Nairobi on Monday night as a last resort.

Kagere, who ditched the 15-times league champions in a huff after seeing off his one year deal at the end of the invisible 2015 season, has been on my occasions linked with a move back to K’Ogalo but the arrival of 32 years old Silva, Ze Maria own recommendation, on June 3 killed those hopes; however like a cat with nine lives the failure of the much hyped Brazilian handed him a lifeline.

“Pacman” or “Lwanda Magere” as Kagere is famously reffered to by K’Ogalo fans, captivated the Kenyan Premier League scene with his tantalising skills on the ball that made his opponents look avarage – he celebrated 15 league goals during the short stay as they marched to a record 15th title unscathed under then Scottish tactician Frank Nuttall.

He was replaced by fellow Rwandan, Jacques Tuyisenge after he (Kagere) failed to agree on new terms of contract with Gor; ever since, he has remained club-less, however he kept fit, training with his former side APR in Rwanda.

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Dickson Otieno Rachier is reported to have left to meet the former Rwandan international at Silver Springs Hotel, Hurlingham in the afternoon for contra talks killing rumours linking him with a move to Gor arch rivals AFC Leopards. When done, he is expected to report to Gor’s afternoon training at Toyoyo.

Meanwhile, De Silva will return home richer after picking his compensation for contract termination.
