Cameroon Pesident His Excellency Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya Thursday, December 8, 2016 hosted 2016 AWCON runners-up the Lionesses at Unity Palace, Yaounde to congratulate them.

The Head of State lauded their performance, which “brought honour to Cameroon.”

“Cameroonians are proud of you,” Biya remarked, noting that they courageously defended the colours of the nation throughout the tournament and are now considered role models to Cameroonian youths.

The Lionesses were edged 1-0 by the Super Falcons of Nigeria who grabbed a record 9th title in a hotly contested final played before a fully packed Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Younde Saturday, December 3, 2016, but despite the loss, the Cameroonian ladies gave a good account of themselves, and were a crowd puller each time they took to the field.

Biya, one of the longest serving African presidents, praised coach Enow Ngachu, whose expertise transformed the team into a den of “veritable Indomitable Lionesses.”

He also appreciated the organizing committee for a splendid job – hosting a successful a tournament – promising a repeat when the country hosts the men’s competition in 2019.
