PSL charge Bloemfontein Celtic after fans pitch invasion

The PSL on Monday charged Bloemfontein Celtic after fans invaded the pitch in an Absa Premiership clash against Cape Town City at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium.

A statement read: “The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has charged Bloemfontein Celtic following acts of hooliganism which resulted in their fixture against Cape Town City yesterday being abandoned.

“Bloemfontein Celtic has been charged with failure to provide adequate security for the match and bringing the League, sponsors Absa, SAFA, CAF and FIFA into disrepute.

“They will appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on April 25.”

Siwelele national supporters club chairperson Pule Mabena earlier confirmed that nine supporters were arrested after the match was abandoned due to the violent scenes.

The league clash that took place on Sunday afternoon was called off  after 23 minutes due to Celtic fans seemingly launching a protest in the stands against the club’s leadership.

Certain fans in the commotion held up banners which read: ‘Max must go…’ That appeared to be a protest against Siwelele boss Max Tshabalala due to the insecure financial situation of the team.
