Rainford Kalaba hurt as TP Mazembe come under attack in Kinshasa

The fierce rivalry between DR Congo heavyweights TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club took a negative turn on Wednesday 27 when TP Mazembe team bus was attacked by hooligans in Kinshasa.

The reigning CAF Champions were away in the capital for the crunch tie against the arch rivals at Stade Des Martrys, when the despicable act occured before kickoff.

Zambia international midfielder Rainford Kalaba was caught up in the chaos by the goons believed to be AS Vita Club supporters and he was unfortunately hit by a stone on the head. We could not independently verify his condition at the moment.

The ill tempered match ended in a barren draw with both teams finishing the tie a man down. Vita Club’s Bernard Morrison was the first to receive a straight red card for a ruthless tackle on Tanzania international Thomas Ulimwengu.

Malien defender Salif Coulibaly followed him to the dressing room on Mazembe side for a second bookable offense.

AS Vita and Mazembe are joint top of the league with 11 points a piece.
