Renowned Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe   has been officially suspended by the Confederation of African Football ( CAF)  as he faces corruption charges over his officiating in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal between Esperance de Tunis and Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.

 

Sikazwe was the referee of the game that saw Esperance, who later on became the Champions League champions, overcome the Angolan side with a 4-2 home victory to reach the final with the aggregation of the two legs’ results.

The game however witnessed two dubious calls that majorly influenced the tie when he awarded the Blood and Gold’s a debatable penalty and ruled out a legitimate goal for Primeiro de Agosto.

CAF Disciplinary Board have pointed out that there is a corruption suspicion that led Sikazwe to direct the game in such a poor manner.

The Zambian referee will be suspended from officiating any game until he responds to these allegations, while simultaneously having the option to appeal the decision.

Sikazwe was one of the prominent African referees who were entrusted to officiate in the previous edition of the World Cup in Russia.
