Ethiopia’s “Lucy” is through to the round of four of the ongoing CECAFA Women’s Championship in Jinja, Uganda after a hard fought 3-2 win against She-Amavubi of Rwanda at FUFA’s Technical Center, Njeru.

The Rwandan ladies succumbed to their second loss on the bounce after losing to Tanzania by a similar scoreline in their opening group “B” clash and are thus out of the tournament which is being staged for the second time.

Dedebit’s striker Losa Abera hit a brace with Meskerem Kanko adding another to secure the passage to semis for the Coach Meseret Manne’s ladies. She-Amavubi scored through Mukeshimana Dorothy and captain Nibagwire Sifa Gloria.

It took Abera just three minutes to hit the back of the net for a 1-0 lead that lasted until the 45th minute when Mukeshimana drew matters level just before the breather. The highly rated Abera who is the reigning Ethiopian Women’s Premier League most valuable grabbed a brace four minutes past the hour mark to restore the lead, which was cancelled out by Nibagwire six minutes later.

Kanko had the last say in the match burying the winner in the 71st minute to win the thrilling tie for Lucy 3-2.

The winner of group “B” will be decided on Friday when Ethiopia takes on Kilimanjaro Queens of Tanzania. The action continues on Thursday with the last group “A” matches lined up, below are the fixtures.

Tomorrow’s Fixtures:

Kenya vs Zanzibar – 2PM
Uganda vs Burundi – 4PM
