Rwanda FA (FERWAFA) has postponed hosting this year’s CECAFA Women’s Championships that was to kick-off 12-22 May 2018 due to unavailability of funds.

FERWAFA took the decision Tuesday after efforts to secure finances from CECAFA’s secretariat proved futile days to the start of the tournament.

The federation has, however, committed to stage the same at a later day after sitting down with the regional football organization.

“With just a few days to the start of the tournament, FERWAFA has not received funds to host the tournament from CECAFA as agreed last month despite correspondences and calls to CECAFA secretariat requesting hosting funds to be availed to ensure smooth organization of the tournament,” FERWAFA said in a statement.

Regional football bodies receive $1 million from FIFA to help them run their affairs like staging their tournaments.
