Rwanda: Peace cup to be broadcast live by Azam TV

By Staff Reporter

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has partnered with Azam TV to broadcast live all Peace Cup matches from the quarterfinals that commence on June 20 onward accumulating to eight games in total including the final on July 4.

The Tanzania-based broadcaster that launched in Rwanda on Monday has offered to make the feeds available to any local TV channel that requests for it.

Commenting on the announcement, Azam Media CEO, Rhys Torrington, said, “It is great to be extending the Azam TV service to Rwanda and starting with a bang by showing the quality of our coverage of the Peace Cup. Football has been fundamental to our success in the region and we are proud to be associated with this great competition.”

This will be the first time in Rwandan history that Peace Cup games will be shown live on television.
FERWAFA’s head of Marketing and Communications Jerome Dufourg said, “Having joined FERWAFA three months and a half ago exactly, my main priority and focus was next season’s league. In between, there is the Peace Cup that will help us raise standards and test both ours and our partners’ infrastructures and installations. FERWAFA will invite all TV companies soon to bid for a tender and this will help us to know who has the capacity to broadcast live games and who has the best service.”

Since it launched in Dar es Salaam in December 2013, Azam TV has built a reputation as the home of football in Tanzania. It already owns exclusive rights to broadcast the Vodacom Premier League in Tanzania, Azam Uganda Premier League, FKF League in Kenya and the Primus League in Burundi.

Meanwhile, the CAF U-23 Championship/Rio 2016 Olympic qualifier between Uganda and Rwanda scheduled for May 30 at the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium in Kampala will also be broadcast live on Azam One from 3pm.d
