KRC Genk have sacked coach Peter Maes for poor performance.

The Belgium Pro League side is home to Tanzanian skipper Mbwana Samatta.

Rudi Cossey assumes the role on a temporary basis, and will be incharge for tomorrow’s match against KAA Gent.

“KRC Genk today ended collaboration with Peter Maes. Maes came at the start of the season 2015-2016 from KSC Lokeren and was KRC Genk coach in 81 official matches,” the club said.

They further explained, “Achieving Play Off 1 is significantly compromised by the disappointing results of the last few weeks. Therefore it was decided to end the cooperation.”

Genk’s last outing was a 1-0 loss away to Zulte Waregem Wednesday 21, and are 9th in the table standings with 25 points – 15 off Club Brugge.
