Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) president Elvis Chetty will stand for election as a FIFA Council member, the organization has confirmed.

The position fell vacant last month after former Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned in the wake of damning corruption allegations against him.

Kwesi also resigned as vice-president of CAF, the confederation of African football.

CAF has six slots at the top most governing organ of FIFA which boasts 37 members.

Chetty, a member of Bar Association of Seychelles, sought support of COSAFA, the regional football for Southern Africa, president Philip Chiyangwa and member nations.

“We are requesting and soliciting your personal support of the COSAFA members, to rally behind our president as the nominated member to the FIFA Council,” SFF letter to Philip dated 3rd July reads.

The charismatic and intelligent Chetty was first elected SFF president in 2012 for a four-year term and won his re-election getting unanimously vote from all the delegates except his own vote   in 2016 perhaps because of his stellar leadership and development projects that have endeared him to football stakeholders.

CAF will meet on 30th September 2018 to fill the  two vacant positions of vice-president and FIFA Council member.
