Simba out to cause major upset against TP Mazembe

Simba SC will be out to cause a major upset when they lock horns with TP Mazembe in a Caf Champions League second-leg quarterfinal clash at Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday afternoon.

The Tanzanian champions head to Democratic Republic of Congo following a goalless draw in the first-leg showdown between the two clubs at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam last weekend.

Both teams squandered several chances throughout the match, with the woodwork coming to either sides rescue, while John Bocco missed a second-half penalty to give Simba a lead in the reverse fixture.

Ravens boss Mihayo Kazembe highlighted both teams failure to find the back of the net in Tanzania while also being mindful of the tricky assignment that lies in wait for his team in the second-leg.

“It was a tough game for both teams. We had our chances just like them but neither of us used the minimal opportunities created,” Kazembe said.

“Both teams have a chance in Lubumbashi, we will need to play with caution to make sure we don’t concede a goal.”

Simba boss Patrick Aussems was delighted with his team’s performance against the five-time champions in Dar es Salaam and is confident his side have the credentials to cause an upset in Lubumbashi.

“As you saw, we missed a couple of scoring chances in both halves of the game hitting the post and missing the penalty,” said Aussems.

“We gave them trouble and by doing that, we have shown that we can compete with any team in Africa bearing in mind that TP Mazembe is one of the biggest club’s in the continent.”

The aggregate winner will face either CS Constantine or Esperance de Tunis in the semifinals of this season’s competition.
