Six Most Underrated Ghana Premier League Footballers

Six Most Underrated Ghana Premier League Footballers

By Dom Agbakpe,

You have read plenty of articles telling you who the best and worst Ghana Premier League players are –

We know how good Victorien Adebayor is and we know how bad Fatawu Mohammed is –
But think about the footballers who don’t receive enough recognition –

The article will tell you the six (6) most underrated footballers are:

KARELA UNITED: EMMANUEL KEYEKE

Diawise Taylor is getting the plaudits for the goals but Emmanuel Keyeke is playing very well in midfield.

Keyeke is so disciplined, composed on the ball and likes to tackle but his ability to play incisive passess and technical ability which see him a player to watch out for.

I’d be surprised to see him stay at the club next term.

At 23 years of age, there is a lot to like about Keyeke.

HEART OF OAK: RADDY OVOUKA

One of the players discarded by many but he has rebuilt the career under Edward Nii Odoom, probably doesn’t get the attention because he is not an attention-grabbing defender.

He is a definition of unfussy, a sort of defender who you might not be notice is until he stops an opposition attack simply being at the right place.

GREAT OLYMPICS: PHILLIP NII SACKEY

One thing for sure is the Phillip Nii Sackey is a very good right full-back and with Great Olympics having a very youthful look about them, Sackey’s role has become more important

– He has missed a couple of PL games this season underlying his importance for the team.
Amazing thing about him is his vision, ability and understanding of the game.

Not to mention, he has popped up with a few important goals and assists this season as well.

MEDEAMA SC: NANA KOFI BABIL

With Prince Opoku Agyemang dominating headlines for Medeama Sporting Club due to his performance and goals this term, it means little attention has been paid to the youngster –

Babil is as versatile as they come, playing on the left or right. And he never look out of pace or uncomfortable.

Equally, he never kicks a fuss over the fact that he may not be playing in his natural position – 10 instead he works tirelessly to help his side.

His attitude mixed with his ability on the ball (And goal threat makes him a truly a very good footballer).

ELMINA SHARKS: BENJAMIN BOATENG

Benjamin Tweneboah? Augustine Owusu? Benjamin Arthur? Alhaji Mustapha? It would be hard to argue against any of these players being as underated considering their performance this season.

Not only that Elmina Sharks campaign up to this point is made all the impressive by the fact coach Yaw Acheampong has used fewest players of any team in the league.

While the above players have been impressive, it is Benjamin Boateng who continues to be overlooked when in reality, he should be regarded as one of the best forwards in the division – 7 goals so far is very good for the Ghanaian, his game is so much more than just goals.

A tireless team player that deserve much more recognition.

ASHANTI GOLD: MUBARIK YUSSIF

Mubarik Yussif has been solid at the heart of defence for the Miners but hardly get claps or recognition – Disciplined, presence in the box, good passer and reader of the game.

The former Liberty Professionals man is the reason the Obuasi-based club have conceded 10 goals – so far this season. Also, he has two goals to his name.

Yussif has a tough job on his hands to help the Ashanti Gold win the Ghana Premier League.
