Sportpesa Super 8 PL Week 15 Preview – Kayole Asubuhi, Jericho aiming to break clear at the helm

Sportpesa Super 8 PL Week 15 Preview – Kayole Asubuhi, Jericho aiming to break clear at the helm

The biggest grassroots league in Kenya, the “Sportpesa” sponsored Super 8 Premier League heads to the midway mark this weekend with 8 potentially decisive fixtures on the menu.

Eyes will be trailed on the battle at the very top involving the title contenders; Jericho All Stars, Kayole Asubuhi, Shauri Moyo Blue Stars and Metro Sports, not forgetting the relegation dog fight at the bottom of the log starring Kayole Youth and Shamako Babes.

Kayole Asubuhi vs Baba Dogo United

Joint leaders Kayole Asubuhi takes to the field against a wounded Baba Dogo at Camp Toyoyo on Saturday with a chance to break away at the top of the table standings.

Kayole and Jericho are tied at 29 points and a win could see them (Kayole) go clear at the apex.

Baba smarting from a 2-0 loss to Kawangware last Sunday will be out guns blazing to spring back from the disappointment making them very dangerous like a wounded lion in this tie. Kayole will however be encouraged with their prolific forward line which is among the best in the league; talisman Joel Mutua who has six goals under his belt to this end will specifically be a player to watch in this.

Three points for Baba will take them to top ten with 17 points from current position 12.

Kawangware United vs Jericho All Stars

This tie promises nothing less than a thriller; it could turn out to be the best scoring match ever in the league, having in mind that the two are attack oriented sides.

Jericho’s back line will have a long day as they will be up against the league top scorer Francis Thairu who boosts a whooping 13 goals in 14 fixtures thus far. On the other end, Kawangware will have to work over drive to contain a combined striking force of Eddie Kirui, Victor Walera and Kevin Ndungu who together have netted 18 goals for the Makadara bigwigs.

As stated above this will be a clash of the most prolific attackers in the league; Kawangware has netted six times better than Jericho (25) but their biggest weakness is a porous defense that has let in the highest number of goals (27) more than any other team, Jericho has conceded the least (13). This is an area the East Conference side could capitalize on to bag all the three points.

A win for Jericho keeps them at the top with 32 points while three points for Kawangware could take them to seventh with nineteen points.

Ajax vs Metro Sports

Metro cannot afford to lose ground further in the title race – the east conference heavyweights find themselves fourth on the pecking order, three points a drift of the leaders heading into this crunch tie against Ajax at Nakeel Ground on Sunday.

They (Metro) have failed to master a win in two attempts drawing 1-1 in their last clash against bottom placed Shamako Babes. Ajax are no better either, and having lost 2-1 versus Shauri Moyo Blue Stars last weekend nothing short of a win will be an atonement.

A win could take Metro to second with 29 points with a game at hand, while three points for Ajax could take them a step forward to seventh with twenty points.

Shamako Babes vs Shauri Blue Stars

Fresh from a morale boosting 1-1 draw against big wigs Metro Sports last weekend, strugglers Shamako Babes will host high flying Shauri Moyo Blue Stars at Kabete ACK on Saturday.

Shauri mauled Ajax 2-1 last Sunday and they will be smelling more blood when they take on Shamako. Shauri at position three on the log, have a mathematical chance of moving to the top of the table with 30 points, depending on how fellow title contenders will perform.

For Shamako, there will be no change on the litmus paper regardless of the result they get on the day.

TUK vs Diguna

TUK will be seeking redemption when they host Diguna at City Stadium on Sunday. The university students came down tumbling against giant killers Melta Kabiria, losing 2-1 last weekend.

The hiccup slowed their march to the top, a situation they would be keen to rectify against Diguna. It will however not be an easy ride as Diguna are tails up after slaying Kabete United 2-1 last Sunday.

TUK will be relying on their top scorer Uyoga Jeconiah who boasts 10 goals this far to continue delivering the goodies.

They can climb up to fourth on the table standings with 27 points; Diguna on the other hand have a chance to move to fifth with twenty six points.
