SSMB lobby for CCTV For Stadiums Surveillance

By Administrator,

The Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) has been asked to lobby for inclusion in the government’s CCTV cameras security surveillance project.

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Technical Services, Safety and Security Committee (TSSSC) official Eric Juma said SSMB should bid to it’s sports facilities fitted with CCTV cameras to monitor security.

Juma said it will be costly for clubs to hire the services of CCTV surveillance and thus the need for SSMB to be fully equipped.

“The board should take advantage of the project and give their proposal so that they can be considered. The cameras will assist greatly in maintaining security and fight against acts of hooliganism.

The head of TSSSC G.M.T Ottieno said as a committee ,they will give the proposal through KPL to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) which sits on the SSMB board to push forward for the proposal.

They were speaking during post match briefing after the weekend derby that pitted AFC Leopards against Gor Mahia played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

The meeting attended by Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda, club head of security Paul Obonyo and a top official from FKF  was meant to review activities of Sunday’s match including showing of the captioned CCTV footage of fan behavior deployed for the first time.

Ottieno said KPL was impressed by the initiative and encouraged other clubs to follow suit a move that will assist in bringing sanity.

Logix Technical Solutions Country Director Sam Aguko said it cost Gor Mahia Sh180, 000 to install seven cameras during the fixture.

He said they would have wished to have installed 12 cameras but unfortunately they were unable due to some logistical problems.

Aguko said they have the capacity of installing the cameras within a at least eight hours to an event adding that they are ready whenever they are called upon and urged other teams to come on board.
