St.George reclaim Ethiopian premier league title for record 26th Time

By Administrator,
St.George were crowned the new  2013/2014 Ethiopian premier league champions on Monday evening when they upset Sidama Coffee 1-0 in a highly electrifying match  match at the Yirgalem Stadium.
It was a record 26th title for Sanjaw as they returned to claim their title from Dedebit who were last season’s champions.
Red hot youngster Fitsum Gebremariam who has been in superb form scored the all important goal in the second half sending the stadium to raptures .
St.George begun the game like a house on fire as they fired from all cylinders  playing away from home .The first half ended in a barren draw as Sidama Coffee defenders stood their ground thwarting all attempts from Umed Ukwirry who was playing his last game before moving to Egyptian side Al Ittihad Alexadria where he signed a lucrative three year deal.
Fitsum continued with his goal scoring spree when he latched onto a lose ball before firing St.George into the lead that they held on to the last whistle.
SSt.George won 18 of the 20 matches they played finishing  with 55 points ,17 more than their next challengers Ethiopia Bunna who had 38 points while last season winner finished sixth with 27 points.
