Sundowns, United share spoils in Derby

SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns played out a goalless draw in a 2020-21 DStv Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday.

The top of the table clash promised fireworks and goals as the two teams in the past had goals scored. Going into this game Masandawana made a couple of changes to the starting line up, George Maluleka, Mosa Lebusa, Gaston Sirino and Tebogo Langerman all started the game. Harold Majadibodu also made the bench for uthe first time this season.

The game started at a high pace as both sides were assessing each other and Lebo Maboe was the first one to test the homes-side keeper as his shot was gathered by Ronwen Williams. Mothobi Mvala who has been finding the back of the net lately had an opportunity to open the score sheet from a corner kick taken by Sirino. Matsatsantsa had a go at unsettling Masandawana but could not find a clear scoring opportunity. In the 34th minute, Mvala had a chance to take a shot but it was blocked by Luke Fleurs. The game went to half time with the side’s locked at 0-0.

In the second half, Peter Shalulile had an opportunity to extend his goal tally this season after a great pass from Zwane but his shot was saved by Williams. “Mshishi” also had an opportunity to score but his lob could not beat an oncoming Williams who was quick off his line. Lungu had a chance but Brian Onyango was quick to clear the ball and ensure that the score stays at 0-0.

The DStv Premiership top goalscorer Bradley Grobler had an opportunity with a header but Denis Onyango was alert, producing a world-class save as the ball was goal-bound. Maboe in the 62nd minute took a shot outside the box and it seemed it was going in but Fleurs put his body on the line and the ball bounced off him without troubling the home side.
