SuperSport United inflict more misery on Kaizer Chiefs

Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune made an almost identical blunder in consecutive weeks as 10-man Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Chiefs started the stronger of the two sides in the opening stages but failed to make their ball possession count against a dogged Matsatsantsa defence.

The home side then took the lead against the run of play in the 45th minute as Khune again gifted the ball to the opposing attack with an attempted clearance which resulted in Bradley Grobler coolly chipping the ball over the despairing keeper.

That proved the difference as the two sides headed for the half-time break.

SuperSport United doubled their lead in the 53rd minute after a smart team move resulted in Sipho Mbule blasting the ball past Khune from the edge of the box from a Grobler cut back.

Things went from bad to worse for Gavin Hunt’s side as they were reduced to ten men in the 64th minute as Philani Zulu received a straight red card for a late challenge.

Chiefs grabbed a consolation goal via the penalty spot as Lebogang Manyama pulled a goal back in the 88th minute.

That’s how the match ended as Chiefs remain 12th in the league standings as SuperSport moved up to fourth position.
