Tanzania’s Taifa Stars crush out of Cosafa Cup losing all three matches

By Admin,

Lesotho beat Tanzania by 1-0 in their final Group B match of the 2015 Cosafa Cup match held at Moruleng Stadium on Friday night.

Although Likuena lost two of their previous matches when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Madagascar and going down 2-0 to rivals Swaziland, the win means they go home with a single win as they subsequently ended their chances of replicating their fourth place finish in Zambia two years ago.

Looking at the Taifa Stars, they fell 1-0 to Swaziland in their opening game as well as 2-0 defeat against Madagascar that dashed their hopes of reaching the knockout stages with the loss to Lesotho meaning they pack their bags without a win and without scoring a single goal.

Likuena struggled to find the net as they waited for Jeremea Kamela to score in the 76th minute when he scrambled the ball home after Mabuti Potloane’s free-kick had struck the underside of the bar.

However, the side from the mountainous kingdom tried to probe for an opener as early as the ninth minute when Kamela took a fierce shot from the left, but goalkeeper Deogratias Munisi punched it back into play.

After 20 minutes of play, forward John Bocco unleashed an overhead kick in the edge of the box, but it was well taken by the goalkeeper Kananelo Makhooane.

At half-time, both sides were locked at 0-0 and in the beginning of the second stanza, Seephephe Matete’s charges moved forward with urgency searching for their opening goal as Ts’oanelo Koetle sent an angled cross that was booted off the line by Shomari Kapombe in the 72nd minute.

With four minutes to go, left back Nketsi Rankhasa took a cracking shot, however, it was punched back into play by the goalkeeper and eventually cleared by Maart Nooij’s men, handing Likuena their first win in the regional showpiece.
