The Saints floors VCC to move third.

By Steven Kagiri,uganda team

Mukono based big league side The saints FC enjoyed the 230km travel to Masindi district after they returned with maximum points and a clean sheet after flooring VCC FC 2-0.

The win, the first away win for the Saints came thanks to goals by Geoffrey Buni and Vianney Ssekajugo in the first half.

The Saints got off to a strong start at the muddy (due to a heavy rain shower before kickoff) Masindi Stadium and could have taken the lead with just 3 minutes on the clock but Ronald Musana’s clever shot ricocheted off the post when the keeper was well beaten.

Buni however didn’t waste his chance when he calmly slotted into the net from another Musana cross.

With minutes to play in the first half, Ssekajugo, starting his first game for the Saints beat the towering VCC left back Rashid Ochot,  and with the keeper advancing on him, superbly looped over and into the net as the Saints took charge. The half ended 2-0.

The second half started with the home side fully re-energised but The Saints remained professional and kept them at bay till the final whistle. Taban Amin, the patriarch of VCC congratulated the Saints and wished them best of luck.

The Saints started the game without several players. Farook Kawooya was serving his one match suspension after accumulating three yellow cards, Brian Mukasa was also suspended after collecting a red card against Vurra. Julius Madepi who scored against Vurra last Monday was injured and Edward Kuume who had played superbly at left back against Vurra was rested for Robert Kasolo who never disappoints.

Coach Mark Twinamatsiko took the game to VCC by playing deploying Alex Kitata and Rajab Jooga and the two despite not getting on the scoresheet, kept the VCC defenders busy all afternoon.

Next up for the Saints is a home date with Mutundwe Lions on Sunday at Namboole.
