TP Mazembe have officially released Ghanaian duo of Solomon Asante and Yaw Frimpong following expiry of their contracts.

27–year–old Asante, who has since moved to Phoenix Rising FC of the United Soccer League, joined the Ravens in 2013 from Berekum Chelsea in Ghana’s topflight.

Frimpong, 31, on the other hand crossed over from Asante Kotoko in the same year.

“The two Ghanaian internationals have greatly helped the team reach its goals in the national league, the CAF Cup and also in the Champions League.

“The TPM would like to thank these great champions and wish them the best for the rest of their careers,” the club said.

For five seasons, the two have been a core part of the Lubumbashi giants, who have dominated African football for close to a decade now.

Among medals they will take home includes Linafoot, African Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup and Super Cup.

Asante was particularly key in Mazembe’s back to back triumph in the CAF Confederation Cup this year – beating South Africa’s Supersport United 3-1 aggregate in the finals.

His late introduction in the first leg encounter at Stade Mazembe yielded instant results as he set up Daniel Adjei for the third goal at a time they were under immense pressure from Supersport who were trailing 2-1.

Mazembe have begun a new chapter in their growth as they gradually phase out foreign players whom they have heavily relied upon to dominate Africa in the past years and replacing them will youngsters from their elaborate young system.

Notable foreign faces who have left the five times African Champions recently include Tanzanian duo of Mbwana Samatta and Thomas Ulimwengu and Zambian midfielder Given Singuluma.

Some of the fresh bloods, who recently graduated to the senior side from Moise Katumbi Academy, include Ben Malango, who was the club’s to scorer last year, and Chiko Ushindi, who is currently enjoying superb form in Linafoot.
