A fierce battle for the 2016/17 DR Congo topflight title is seething. Three rounds to the end of eight-team playoffs to determine the winner, defending champions TP Mazembe, AS Vita Club and Daring Club Motema Pembe are neck to neck.

Mazembe, 15-time winners, top the mini league on twenty four points from 11 games. They beat Don Bosco 2-0 Friday in Kamalondo to keep a three-point gap between them and Vita and DCMP, who are tied in the second position.

Vita, who are chasing a 14th title beat Bakavu Dawa 2-1 at Martyrs Stadium on the same day to keep the chase.

The coach Florent Ibenge’s side has played a match less compared to Mazembe and DCMP and could go level on points at the top if they win the match at hand.

In the Friday matches, Adama Traore opened scoring for Mazembe in the 8th minute, before Ben Malongo sealed the win with the second in the 77th minute.

Etekiama broke the deadlock for Vita in the 39th from the spot with Emomo making it 2-0 in the 87th minute from another penalty. Akim scored Bakavu’s lone goal in the 85th minute.
